Natnael Ashebir captures the rhythm of time and space, layering form, colour and texture into intricate visual meditations. Across painting, drawing, photography and digital media, he explores how history, identity, memory and belonging shape our understanding of self and place.

The Artist
Ashebir is an emerging multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, drawing, photography and digital media. Through layered visual narratives, he examines the intersections between personal reflection and broader social realities, creating works that are both intimate and expansive in scope. His recent work brings together diverse forms and media in a meditative exploration of inwardness and the layered nature of lived experience. While his practice often considers the effects of urbanisation and social structures, his artworks move beyond direct commentary to evoke immersive experiences of time, space and memory. Through nuanced compositions and a sensitive engagement with materiality, he invites viewers to contemplate the complex relationships between environment, history and human presence.
Ashebir holds a BFA from the Alle School of Fine Art and Design, completed in 2021, a diploma from Entoto Polytechnic College and a certificate from Abyssinia Fine Art School. His work has been exhibited in Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa. In 2022 he received second prize in the Emerging Painting Invitational, organised by the African Art Galleries Association. Based in Addis Ababa, he continues to expand his multidisciplinary practice and foster a dialogue between tradition and contemporary expression.
